Fanny Blankers-Koen was a 30-year-old mother of two when she conquered the 1948 London Olympics, winning four golds and earning the nickname "The Flying Housewife." The Dutchwoman dominated sprints, hurdles, and relays at a time when female athletes were expected to retire after marriage and children. She could have won more - she held world records in the high jump and long jump that weren't even contested in London. The IAAF voted her Female Athlete of the 20th Century, recognizing a pioneer who proved that women could be mothers and champions simultaneously.
