Dawn Fraser was Australia's original swimming rebel, a larrikin who won three consecutive Olympic 100m freestyle titles and became a national icon. She was the first woman to break 60 seconds in the 100m, setting 39 world records across her career. But Fraser was as famous for her attitude as her speed - she clashed with swimming officials, survived a near-fatal car crash, and was banned from swimming after the 1964 Games for allegedly stealing a flag from the Japanese emperor's palace. None of it dimmed her legend. Australia has produced many great swimmers; Fraser remains the most beloved.
