Sun Yang was the most dominant distance freestyle swimmer of the 2010s and China's greatest ever male swimmer. He won individual Olympic golds in the 400m and 1500m freestyle at London 2012, added the 200m free gold at Rio 2016, and amassed 11 individual World Championship golds across a decade of dominance. His rivalry with Mack Horton and other Western swimmers became one of swimming's most charged storylines, fueled by a doping ban that permanently divided opinion on his legacy.
