Biography

Phil Mickelson played golf like a gambler who couldn't resist one more hand. The risk-taking that cost him tournaments also produced shots no one else would attempt, and occasionally pull off. Lefty could hit hooks around trees that curved 90 degrees, flop shots that landed like feathers, putts from off the green that others would never consider. Six majors include three Masters and, most remarkably, the 2021 PGA Championship at age 50 - the oldest major winner ever. The U.S. Open remains the one that got away, six runner-up finishes without a victory. He played in Tiger's shadow and still won 45 PGA Tour events. The smile and the autograph-signing made him popular; the shot-making made him compelling.
