
Jonathan Edwards' triple jump world record of 18.29m, set at the 1995 World Championships in Gothenburg, has stood for 31 years — and counting. He was the first man over 18 metres, and the record has survived every technological and training advance since. Olympic gold at Sydney 2000 and two World Championship golds completed a career that peaked in the most spectacular fashion. The devout Christian who refused to compete on Sundays eventually became one of Britain's most respected sports broadcasters.
