Four consecutive Olympic discus golds from 1956 to 1968 - the only track athlete to win the same event four times - came despite injuries, car accidents, and better-ranked competitors. Each gold came with an Olympic record. He threw with a technique all his own, relying on explosive power rather than classical form. At 32, in his final Olympics, he summoned a throw of 64.78 meters when he needed it most. Oerter proved that championships aren't won on paper; they're won in the moment.
