Mike Bossy was efficiency personified. The puck hit his stick, and it had a good chance of hitting the net. Nine consecutive 50-goal seasons to start his career remains perhaps hockey's most unbreakable record - no one else has managed more than three. The 573 goals came in just 752 games, a goals-per-game rate unmatched in the modern era. He didn't score dirty goals - his were often things of beauty, one-timers perfectly placed, wrists shots finding corners. Four Stanley Cups with the Islanders dynasty of the early 1980s showcased his clutch scoring. But back injuries began limiting him in his mid-20s, and by 30, he was done. The player who might have challenged Gretzky's goal-scoring records instead became a cautionary tale about bodies that don't cooperate with talent.
